Colored Canyon Hiking Tour
Hidden within the Sinai Peninsula lies the Colored Canyon, a breathtaking natural labyrinth and a premier destination for hikers. Towering rock faces reach up to 40 metres in height across nearly 5 kilometres of trail, and every twist reveals new geological formations. The canyon is a living museum of roughly 500 million years of geological evolution, sculpted from Nubian sandstone: iron oxides paint the walls brilliant red and orange, while manganese adds deep purples and earthy browns.

Frequently Asked Questions
How difficult is the Colored Canyon hike?
It is a moderate walk of around 5 kilometres on uneven sandstone, with a few narrow passages and some scrambling over rocks. No technical climbing is involved, but a reasonable level of fitness and sturdy shoes are needed.
How long is the whole day?
Around 8 to 10 hours door to door, including roughly 3 hours of driving each way from Sharm El Sheikh, time in the canyon and lunch.
Is it suitable for children?
Yes for active children aged about 7 and over who can walk 5 km on uneven ground. Younger children can be carried for parts of it, but we recommend the Colored Canyon for families with older kids.
What is the best time of year to visit?
October to April is most comfortable. Summer temperatures in the canyon can be extreme, so we start as early as possible and advise carrying plenty of water.
Is there shade in the canyon?
Parts of the canyon are shaded by the high walls, which is one of the reasons it is pleasant to walk. A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are still essential.
Is lunch included?
Yes, a set-menu lunch is included, along with protectorate entrance fees, your guide and all 4×4 transport.
