Frequently Asked Questions
How hard is the Mount Sinai climb?
It is a moderate but sustained walk of roughly 2.5 to 3.5 hours up the wide Camel Path, followed by around 750 stone steps to the summit. Anyone of reasonable fitness can do it with breaks. A camel can be hired for most of the lower path if you prefer.
Which is better, sunrise or sunset?
Sunrise is the classic choice you climb in the dark and reach the summit for first light, and it avoids the daytime heat. Sunset suits travellers who prefer not to lose a night’s sleep and want to see the landscape in daylight.
How cold is it at the top?
Surprisingly cold, even in summer, and the wind at 2,285 metres makes it feel colder. A warm jacket is essential for both options, plus gloves between December and February.
Can I ride a camel up the mountain?
Yes. Bedouin handlers offer camel rides along roughly two-thirds of the Camel Path for a fee paid locally. You will still need to walk the final 750 steps to the summit.
Is Saint Catherine’s Monastery included?
Yes, the tour includes a visit to the monastery and its museum, subject to its opening hours and closure days.
What is provided for the night climb?
Your private guide carries lighting and sets the pace, but we recommend bringing your own torch or headlamp, a warm layer, water and the breakfast box most Sharm hotels provide free of charge.
